Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC)


Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) is a law that lays down the procedure to be followed by the criminal courts in India. It deals with the procedure for the investigation of crimes, arrest and trial of accused persons, and appeals.

Code of Civil Procedure (CPC)

Code of Civil Procedure (CPC) is a law that lays down the procedure to be followed by the civil courts in India. It deals with the procedure for the filing, hearing and disposal of civil cases.

Indian Penal Code (IPC)

Indian Penal Code (IPC) is a law that defines the criminal offenses in India. It lays down the punishment for various crimes such as murder, theft, rape, etc.

The Constitution of India

The Constitution of India is the supreme law of India. It lays down the fundamental principles of governance and the rights and duties of citizens. Articles in the Constitution of India are provision in Constitution.

For example:

  • CrPC - Section 154 deals with the procedure for reporting a cognizable offense to the police
  • CPC - Order 8, Rule 6A deals with the procedure for filing written statements in a civil suit
  • IPC - Section 300 defines the offense of murder and lays down the punishment for it
  • Constitution of India - Article 14 deals with the right to equality before the law and prohibits discrimination on the grounds of religion, race, caste, sex, or place of birth
